Not many people know this about me, but I spent 7 magical months living on the west coast of Italy as a child. For all I know this is when my love for fashion began. A more likely scenario is that this is where I formed a deep, deeeeep appreciation for carbs and a longing for travel. Between eating pasta and swimming in the Mediterranean, I became fast friends with an Italian girl. Ours were the days movies are made of. We were young and carefree, riding our bikes, sun bathing and having lots and lots of conversations – all in Italian.
I couldn’t tell you now what was said, time can be a thief that way, but one word I could never forget was “andiamo,” meaning ‘let’s go.’ A word my friend and I used incessantly. It’s the promise that the word held that made it so memorable. Go where? With whom? To someone as curious as myself the word meant the prospect of excitement.
Recently I was contacted by a luggage maker called Andiamo and all those memories came rushing back in. What’s in a name you ask? I would say everything. So I went on their website right away and instantly fell in love.
Just seeing the bags made me want to hop on a plane right then and there. Reminiscent of vintage trunks, but made with a sleek modern twist, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one. With 3 colors to choose from, I instinctually chose turquoise. I didn’t know it then, but thinking of my beach life in Italy, maybe it was subconscious. This baby was definitely going on my next trip with me, I thought. Fast forward a few weeks, my photographer and I decided to have a little fun with my new found obsession. Just see for yourself.
