Here’s the thing, every year I look forward to warm weather, but once the heat finally sets in, it begins to do strange things to my appearance. In Miami this phenomenon is guaranteed to last all year. If my hair isn’t frizzy then it’s parched. My tan may be in place but at the price of desert dry skin. And let’s not talk about what my feet go through during the especially sticky summer months.
But just because the season is coming to an end, doesn’t mean that the heat will be letting up any time soon. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of little remedies and simple pleasures that will help you soak up the rest of summer looking your best.
I picked up this tip from my Neiman Marcus shoe sales girl and I have to say, my feet have not been the same. It doesn’t matter how comfortable your shoes are to begin with, add a little heat to the equation and friction is inevitable…or is it? Trust me when I tell you that with this little product, you will have blisters no more. In fact, it works so well that I carry it with me in every bag I own, bring it on every trip and have even started to use it to prevent blisters from playing tennis. Take my word for it, this miracle worker will change your life!
Leave ‘n Shine
Haven’t gotten your unruly locks under control in this humidity? I have, ever since I started using a moister rich leave-in conditioner. I have thick wavy hair and the Alterna Summer Hair Recovery Spray is the only product that has been able to tame this mane. I spray it on every day after my regular shampoo/condition routine over damp hair. It makes my hair look super healthy and shiny and it smells divine.
Do take care of your face. You only get one chance and there’s no turning back the clock. So I say, build a routine if you haven’t already or you can follow my easy steps for when the sun is at its peak:
Exfoliate using the Sabon Creamy Carrot Scrub. Why is it so great? For one, it’s made with carrot seeds instead of salt. The advantage of that is that salt based scrubs are recommended for use once a week, this scrub can be used daily. It is super rich and creamy leaving your face feeling like a baby’s bottom and uber hydrated. It’s the best product I’ve found for making you look younger instantly.
To maintain that glow and block out the UV rays, I recommend moisturizing with Regenerating Lotion With Sunscreen (SPF 15) by Oil of Olay.
You can also work in a little loose bronzer into the lotion before applying it. I use MAC Golden Bronze Iridescent Powder. It leaves your skin looking young and dewy.
After the moisturizer go to town and contour away using your favorite bronzer. Since you’ve already exfoliated, your tan may not be as defined. That’s okay, Too Faced makes an awesome alternative which tastes and smells like real chocolate. It’s inevitable to take a whiff of this stuff when you’re getting ready and quite frankly, you will want to. Nevermind how made up Kim Kardashian tends to look, if you do it right, a bronzer will give you the chiseled look you’re after and reduce your blemishes.
Every Week I’m Polishin’
Possibly the most identifiable color of the season, Sunday Funday has made me rethink orange. Well, actually the hue falls somewhere between orange and coral, but it has just the right amount of pink to make impossible to get tired of. I was actually bummed to have to change when pedicure time came. Which isn’t like me since I make it my job to express my moods using nail color choices. So there you have it, if you haven’t tried it yet, make your summer last a little longer, take the plunge and get on this bandwagon.
Begging 2 B Different Bikini
Always have a bikini on hand that is just for you. Something that makes you feel happy. Not an ensemble that your boyfriend picked out or one that gives you the least amount of tan lines. It’s the end of summer, what tan lines could you possibly have?
Amidst all the hot bikinis out there, there’s always one that draws you in for its sheer girliness. That’s the bikini you want to wear to close out the summer. For me that one is the Lisa Marie Fernandez pink terry number. Its design has a childlike playfulness and soft texture and the flirty little bow puts it over the edge.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the Brazilian cut as much as the next girl, but there is something alluring about this suit that I can’t quite put my finger on. Perhaps it’s because it can also moonlight as the ideal top to a high-waisted short, perfect for that end-of-summer pool party. Whatever it is, it completes me.
