So, I’ve been asked to review the Alice + Olivia Resort 2014 Collection. I know, I know, it’s a tough job but somebody had to do it. I began by imagining all of the pieces hanging in my closet, a thought that proved to be quite euphoric. But putting my personal love for the label aside there was quite a variety of looks to choose from. Sure the line is girly and frilly like it always is, but the edginess from the last few seasons is long gone. Out with the leather inlays and in with structured feminine sophistication. There are so many different fabrics at work here that it made my fingers tingle just thinking about them.
I found the color palette refreshingly patriotic, with rich reds, deep blues and a color that no respectable resort collection can call itself that, white. Kudos to Stacey Bendet, who with a cult-like following once again left no girl behind, well maybe the ones that can’t afford some of her pieces. This collection has all its bases covered, from boho chic tops to tweed Chanelesque jackets, Breton stripes, playful polka dots to baroque florals (which scream Dolce & Gabanna) and flirty lip prints complete with full skirts. Just picture everything that you’ve ever wanted to bring along on vacation materialized into one collection.
On a scale of 1-5, I give it a 4. I am taking one point away for a small lack in originality. Although the line is perfectly beautiful and wearable, there isn’t anything there that is reinventing the wheel. It is more of a contemporary take on classic pieces. With that being said, that is no reason to not get inspired to go shopping. I’ll take one of each!
